What happens, step by step

  1. 1 From Dashboard, open Settings in the sidebar, then choose the Communications tab.
  2. 2 Under Parent notifications, find the relevant school.
  3. 3 On Grade entered or updated, uncheck Email. Leave In-app inbox and Push checked if you want to keep those alerts.

  5. 5 Repeat for other schools if needed. To restore grade emails, check Email and save again.

Frequently asked questions

Which checkbox stops an email for every graded assignment?

In Settings → Communications → Parent notifications, uncheck Email on Grade entered or updated for the relevant school, then click Save parent notifications.

Will parents still be able to see grades?

Yes. This changes automatic email delivery, not access to grades in the portal. You can leave In-app inbox and Push checked.

Does this apply to both parents and every school?

It applies to both guardians at the school whose form you save. Save each school separately. Student and staff notifications are not changed.

Why did turning off New assignment not stop these emails?

New assignment covers newly published quizzes and file uploads. Grade entered or updated controls emails sent when a grade is recorded or changed, including grades in standard Gradebook columns.

Will emails already waiting to send be stopped?

The grade email sender checks the current school setting again before sending. Emails already sent cannot be recalled.

Does this also stop emails that teachers send with grade comments?

No. The optional email sent with a grade comment is a separate action. Teachers can leave its email checkbox unchecked when saving a comment.

How do I turn automatic grade emails back on?

Return to the same school, check Email on Grade entered or updated and save. A parent’s personal opt-out still applies.
