Start the new academic year and move every student up
Roll the school year over in one step: create the next year, copy every class and teacher, move students up one year group, graduate the final year, and see where archived graduates go.

What happens, step by step
- 1 Start on the admin Dashboard; click Settings, then Manage Calendar under Academic Years & Terms.
- 2 Click Manage on the year that is ending, then Start New Year.
- 3 Check the grade order the school will use and keep Move students up one grade ticked.
- 4 Click Start Rollover and confirm. The new year is created, every class and teacher is copied, and it becomes the current year.
- 5 Open Classes to see each student in the next year group; the first year group is empty, ready for new admissions.
- 6 Use the year picker in the top bar to look back at the concluded year: its rosters, grades and attendance are kept, read-only.
- 7 Open People → Students → Former Students → Archived to find the graduates, each kept with every record and a Restore button.
Frequently asked questions
How does MarkTrack know which year group comes next?
From the order of the school's grades, not from the names. Year groups named Year 1, Year 2 and so on are ordered by their number; other grade levels use the order they were created in. The wizard prints the order it will use before you confirm.
Where do the students in the final year go?
They graduate. Their enrollment for the old year is marked completed and their account is archived with the reason Graduated. Find them under People → Students → Former Students → Archived; every record is kept and you can Restore them.
Does the first year group get anyone?
No. Nobody moves into the first year group, so it starts empty and ready for the new admissions you accept for the new year.
What happens to last year's grades and attendance?
They stay in the old year, which is concluded and read-only. Switch the year picker in the top bar to look at them; nothing is copied or deleted.
I already concluded the old year. Can I still roll over?
Yes. Open the concluded year, click Reopen, then Start New Year. If the new year already exists, the wizard reuses it and keeps its saved dates.
What if I only want to copy the classes and place students myself?
Untick Move students up one grade before starting. The classes and teachers are copied with empty rosters, and Bulk Enroll on the new year suggests each student's next class for you to confirm.
